Independent Verification

Testing & Certification

Our luminaires have undergone rigorous independent testing at some of Europe's most respected nuclear research institutions. Every claim we make is backed by documented evidence.

The Test

Complete LED luminaire tests on the effects of gamma radiation were conducted at the Casaccia Research Center operated by ENEA (Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Development) — one of the foremost nuclear research facilities in Europe.

Three Luminos Nuclear LED luminaires were positioned 20cm from the Co-60 source rack in the Calliope Facility — a pool-type gamma irradiation plant with a Co-60 source (mean energy of 1.25 MeV).

The irradiation test ran from 06/05/2024 to 09/05/2024 for a total active irradiation time of 47 hours 40 minutes. At the end of the test, all LED luminaires were still in full working condition.

Testing Protocol

What Was Tested

Unlike some manufacturers who test components in isolation, Luminos Nuclear submitted complete assembled luminaires — including the LED driver — to full gamma irradiation.

Complete Luminaire Testing

Full Assembly Including LED Driver

All luminaire components — including the LED driver — were tested at ENEA. This is critical because the LED driver is the component most susceptible to radiation damage in standard luminaires. Our proprietary radiation-hardened driver is the heart of every Luminos Nuclear product.

47 Hours of Active Irradiation

Continuous Operation Under Radiation

Luminaires were operated continuously during the irradiation period — not merely exposed to radiation while switched off. This simulates real-world operating conditions in nuclear and radiation facilities where lights must function reliably at all times.

Real-Time Monitoring

Dewesoft Measurement System

Electrical parameters were continuously monitored throughout the test using a Dewesoft precision measurement system, providing a complete record of luminaire performance throughout the entire irradiation period.

Test Result

All Luminaires Passed

After receiving a total gamma dose of 156 kGy — the equivalent of years of operation in a nuclear environment — all three tested luminaire models were still in full working condition at the conclusion of the test.
